The Indian stock market will remain closed on June 26, 2026, in observance of Muharram. Trading activities across the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will be suspended for the day.
Investors will not be able to trade in the equity, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, NDS-RST and Tri-Party Repo segments on Friday as both exchanges observe the Muharram holiday.
After Muharram, the next trading holiday for Indian stock exchanges is scheduled for September 14, 2026, on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.
A total of 16 stock market holidays have been notified for 2026. With several holidays already completed, the remaining exchange holidays are:
| Date | Occasion |
| June 26 | Muharram |
| September 14 | Ganesh Chaturthi |
| October 2 | Gandhi Jayanti |
| October 20 | Dussehra |
| November 10 | Diwali Balipratipada |
| November 24 | Guru Nanak Jayanti |
| December 25 | Christmas |
Some holidays in 2026 fall on weekends and therefore do not result in additional market closures.
| Occasion | Date |
| Mahashivratri | February 15 |
| Eid-Ul-Fitr | March 21 |
| Independence Day | August 15 |
| Diwali Laxmi Pujan | November 8 |
Unlike the stock exchanges, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will observe a partial holiday on June 26.
Trading in commodities will remain closed during the morning session from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, trading will resume during the evening session from 5:00 PM onwards and continue until the scheduled market close.
Indian stock markets will remain closed on June 26 for Muharram, while MCX will operate only during the evening session. Investors should plan their trades accordingly and keep track of the remaining market holidays scheduled for the rest of 2026.
