On October 9, 2025, Sterlite Technologies Limited (STL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with QNu Labs Pvt. Ltd. to advance research and development in quantum communications over optical fibre transmission, reinforcing India’s progress in quantum-secure digital infrastructure.

STL and QNu Labs Join Forces for Quantum Research

STL, a global leader in advanced connectivity solutions, has partnered with QNu Labs, India’s pioneering quantum cybersecurity company incubated at IIT Madras Research Park in 2016. Backed by the National Quantum Mission of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), QNu Labs aims to secure the world’s digital infrastructure against quantum threats and drive India’s leadership in quantum-secure communications.

India’s quantum communication market is expected to grow to around $139.8 million by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate of 34.6%. With an outlay of ₹6,000 crore under the National Quantum Mission, the country is focused on developing real quantum-secure systems by 2031.

STL’s Multi-Core Fibre Technology Powers Quantum Advancements

STL is among the first companies to demonstrate on-field deployments of Multi-Core Fibre (MCF) technology, enabling Space Division Multiplexing in 7 and 4-core fibres to achieve ultra-high transmission capacity within the same diameter. Its MCF solution caters to hyperscale data centres, 5G, and quantum applications, supporting next-generation demands like Gen AI, online gaming, and ultra-high bandwidth video streaming up to 12K resolution.

STL’s MCF technology was deployed in India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT)-sponsored Advanced Optical Communications Test Bed at IIT Madras, aligning with TEC-led Essential Requirements standards.

QNu Demonstrates Quantum Key Distribution Over STL’s MCF

In this collaboration, QNu Labs demonstrated its Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) system over STL’s 4-core MCF, achieving secure key exchange across 170 km with 800 Gbps of classical data transmission, and 150 km with 1.8 Tbps classical traffic. This marks a breakthrough in integrating quantum security with high-capacity optical networks.

Building Scalable Quantum-Secure Networks for the Future

STL and QNu will work jointly to accelerate research in quantum-secure communications by merging STL’s optical transmission expertise with QNu’s quantum cryptography and hybrid security technologies. The collaboration aims to create scalable, future-ready network architectures for India and global markets, paving the way for widespread deployment of quantum-safe communication networks.

Sterlite Technologies Share Price Performance

On October 9, 2025, Sterlite Technologies share price opened at ₹117.85 on NSE, near the previous close of ₹117.85. During the day, it surged to ₹119.87 and dipped to ₹117.42. The stock is trading at ₹117.51 as of 2:07 PM. The stock registered a marginal change of -0.29%.

Over the past week, it has declined by 4.63%, over the past month, it has moved up by 2.08%, and over the past 3 months, it has moved up by 6.07%.

Conclusion

The STL and QNu partnership marks a crucial milestone in India’s journey towards quantum-secure communication. By combining optical fibre innovation with advanced quantum security, the collaboration strengthens India’s position as a global leader in secure digital infrastructure and technological sovereignty.
