SpiceJet has signed a lease agreement for an additional five Boeing 737 aircraft, further boosting its fleet capacity ahead of the busy winter 2025 travel season. The move aims to strengthen the airline’s operational readiness and meet heightened passenger demand.
While most of the newly leased aircraft are expected to join the fleet in October 2025, some will arrive a few weeks earlier. These planes will operate through the peak winter period and remain in service until May 2026, extending into the early summer season.
The new Boeing 737s will be inducted under damp lease arrangements, where the lessor provides aircraft, maintenance, and cockpit crew, while SpiceJet supplies the cabin crew. This latest deal comes shortly after last month’s announcement of leasing another five Boeing 737s from a different operator, taking total planned additions to 10 aircraft. The airline is also in advanced talks to secure more aircraft ahead of the winter rush.
Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, SpiceJet, said, “SpiceJet is fully geared to meet the surge in travel demand for the upcoming winter and early summer seasons. With the induction of these additional Boeing 737s, we are ensuring that our passengers have more choices, greater connectivity, and a reliable, on-time travel experience.”
On August 13, 2025, SpiceJet share price opened at ₹34.49, almost the same as its previous close of ₹34.28. At 10:36 AM, the share price of SpiceJet was trading at ₹35.02, up by 2.16% on the BSE.
