On October 7, 2026, the Sensex rose 450 points from its day's low while the Nifty crossed the 22,700 mark. This recovery was largely influenced by value buying, along with the Reserve Bank of India's decision to increase the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.5%, a move driven by mounting inflation and strong economic growth.

Role of RBI's Monetary Policy Decision

The Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy likely played a crucial role in reversing earlier market losses. It raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.5%, marking the first hike in 4 years amidst rising inflation.

The possible future rate hikes were indicated through a shift to a "calibrated tightening" approach. Banks and financial stocks rallied following this announcement, with marginal gains reported in both private and state-owned banks.

Impact of Value Buying

Following 8 weeks of decline, investors initiated value buying at lower levels. This led the Sensex to climb 450 points from the day’s low while the Nifty moved above the 22,700 level. The market showed resilience despite ongoing economic pressures, which was supported by the RBI’s policy stance.
