SEBI Appoints KV Ramana Murty as its Fourth Whole-Time Member

K V Ramana Murty has taken charge as a whole-time member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). His appointment brings the number of whole-time members on the board to 4. The positions had remained unfilled for several months.
Whole-time members are part of the regulator’s executive structure. They are involved in handling regulatory matters, enforcement proceedings, and internal decision-making processes.
K V Ramana Murty’s Background
Murty previously served as Additional Controller General of Defence Accounts. He has also worked as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. In that role, he was associated with policy-related work and e-governance systems.
He has been linked with the National Financial Reporting Authority and has held positions on the councils of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, and the Institute of Cost & Management Accountants of India.
Murty had earlier served on SEBI’s board as a part-time member representing the government.
Board Structure
With this appointment, the SEBI board now has a chairman, 4 whole-time members and 4 part-time members. The part-time members represent the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and the Reserve Bank of India.
In December 2025, Sandip Pradhan, former Director General of Income Tax (Investigation), was also appointed as a whole-time member.

With this induction, the number of whole-time members at SEBI has returned to 4. The board structure is now aligned with its prescribed composition.
