Samsung has commenced manufacturing laptops in India, breaking new ground at its Greater Noida factory and expanding an already extensive local production portfolio, as per reports. The move marks a notable addition to Samsung’s ongoing operations in India, where it has been manufacturing phones, tablets, wearables, and other devices for years.
“Samsung has expanded its manufacturing portfolio. It has started manufacturing laptops in India at its Greater Noida factory. It has plans to start manufacturing more devices in the country," a source stated to PTI.
As per news reports, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw met with senior Samsung executives, including JB Park, President and CEO for Samsung Southwest Asia, and SP Chun, Corporate Vice President. Vaishnaw commented after the meeting, "Samsung continues to expand manufacturing of its advanced technology devices in Bharat, driven by talent and innovation."
Samsung’s Greater Noida plant, established in 1996, was one of the country’s first global electronics manufacturing facilities and today serves as a central hub for a diverse range of products.
India is home to Samsung’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturing unit worldwide, and the company is the nation’s second-largest exporter of handsets, trailing only Apple. In smartphones, Samsung holds the 2nd spot for both value and unit share according to Counterpoint Research.
The company also ranks as the 2nd largest player in the tablet PC market, holding a 15% share, as per CyberMedia Research.
