On Monday, August 25, 2025, Reliance Power share price (NSE: RPOWER) dropped 5% to ₹46.46, while Reliance Infrastructure share price (NSE: RELINFRA) fell 5% to ₹275.65, hitting their respective lower circuits.

Reason for the Fall

The decline came after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) searched Anil Ambani’s Mumbai home and Reliance Communications’ offices on Saturday. The case is linked to an alleged ₹2,929 crore bank fraud, based on a complaint by the State Bank of India.

Ambani denied the charges, saying the transactions happened over a decade ago when he was only a non-executive director and not involved in day-to-day management. He also pointed out that similar proceedings against five other non-executive directors had already been withdrawn.

Company Clarifications

Reliance Power and Reliance Infra issued separate statements on Sunday, assuring investors that the fraud classification of Reliance Communications’ loans does not affect their governance, finances, or business operations.

Both companies stressed that:

  • Anil Ambani has not been on their boards for over 3.5 years.
  • They operate as independent listed entities with no ties to Reliance Communications.
  • Reliance Communications has been under the control of a committee of creditors, led by SBI and a resolution professional, for six years. The case is still pending before the NCLT and the Supreme Court.

Conclusion

Despite investor concerns triggered by the CBI probe, Reliance Power and Reliance Infra clarified that their businesses remain unaffected. However, the negative sentiment drove both stocks to their lower circuits.
