Reliance Jio has introduced new charges for businesses sending RCS messages to iPhone users in India, as per The Economic Times news report. The change follows Jio's partnership with Apple to bring RCS support to iPhones on its network.

This also means businesses can now use iPhones to send different types of messages to customers, including marketing messages, transaction updates, and one-time passwords (OTPs).

New RCS charges from Jio

Businesses will pay ₹0.27-₹0.30 for each marketing message, while transactional messages will cost ₹0.25 each. OTP messages will cost between ₹0.11 and ₹0.16.

The new rates are higher than Jio's earlier RCS pricing of ₹0.08-₹0.10 per message. Depending on the type of message, the increase ranges from around 10% to almost three times the earlier rate.

Jio has also kept separate prices for marketing, transactional, and OTP messages. The pricing is aimed at businesses that use messaging to reach their customers.

Apple Brings Business RCS to India

Until now, RCS on iPhones was mainly used for person-to-person messaging. Apple and Google have made RCS work between iPhones and Android phones, and Apple is now expanding its business messaging service as well.

With the new setup, companies will be able to send messages directly to iPhone users on Jio's network. These can include promotional messages, transaction-related information, and OTPs.

Apple has already started enabling business RCS in countries such as the US, UK, Germany, France and Spain. The price charged to businesses is decided by telecom operators in each market.

Conclusion

Jio's new RCS pricing gives businesses a way to send marketing, transactional and OTP messages to iPhone users in India. With Apple expanding business RCS and other telecom operators expected to join, the service is set to become a bigger part of business messaging in the country.
