Reliance New Energy plans to commission the first phase of its 40 GWh battery cell manufacturing facility this year, as per media reports.

The company noted that all major equipment for the project has already been delivered. It also intends to expand the plant's annual capacity to 120 GWh over time as demand for battery storage grows.

Green Power Generation Target

The company has set a target of generating 40 billion units of renewable electricity every year from its energy hub in Kutch, Gujarat.

Spread across more than 5 lakh acres, the facility is expected to produce electricity equivalent to nearly 3% of India's present annual power requirement. The target was announced during Reliance Industries' Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Solar Manufacturing Capacity

Reliance said its solar PV cell and module production lines have started operations and nearly 1 GW of heterojunction technology (HJT) modules has already been manufactured.

According to the company, the modules deliver around 2% higher energy yield, 15% better temperature performance, and 25% lower degradation than conventional solar modules over their operating life.

Integrated Manufacturing Chain

The company is also building an integrated manufacturing ecosystem covering polysilicon, ingots, wafers, cells, modules, and glass, with a planned capacity of 20 GW annually.

It has received an Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) listing for HJT technology, becoming the first company in India to secure approval for this advanced solar cell technology.

Reliance’s Business Outlook

Reliance noted its new energy business is shifting from the construction phase to commissioning, with commercial revenue expected to begin during the current year.

The company expects the segment to start contributing to financial performance from 2027 onwards. It also referred to its long-term green ammonia supply agreement with Samsung C&T, signed in March.
