
The Reserve Bank of India has promoted senior official Usha Janakiraman to Executive Director effective December 1, 2025.
Usha Janakiraman Steps into the Executive Director Role
Before her elevation, Janakiraman served as Chief General Manager-in-Charge in the Department of Regulation at the RBI’s central office in Mumbai.
Across more than 3 decades with the central bank, she has worked in diverse areas such as regulation, external investment and operations, banking supervision, public debt management and currency management, building a strong record of experience.
Focus Areas and Leadership Strengthening at RBI
In her new role, she will oversee the Department of Supervision with a focus on risk assessment, analytics, and vulnerability analysis.
Her appointment follows the recent elevation of Sonali Sen Gupta and Sanjay Kumar Hansda as Executive Directors in October 2025, reflecting a continued strengthening of RBI’s senior leadership. As a Chartered Accountant, she brings both technical and supervisory depth to the position
