Powertel Taps Tejas Networks For 400Gbps Upgrade Of Its Pan-India DWDM Network

Tejas Networks has secured a major contract from PowerTel, a subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India, to deploy a 400Gbps dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) backbone network across the country. The initiative aims to strengthen PowerTel’s fibre infrastructure and enhance connectivity for telecom, data centre, and enterprise clients.
Tejas Networks to Upgrade Powertel Network
Under this engagement, Tejas will design, supply, install, test, and commission a pan-India optical transport upgrade using its TJ1600 multi-terabit DWDM/OTN platform. The technology supports up to 1.2Tbps per wavelength and enables smooth integration through alien wavelength capability, reducing cost and deployment time for existing brownfield routes.
Tejas’s SDN-ready backbone will help PowerTel expand high-speed data services across both new greenfield sites and existing optical links. The project also supports PowerTel’s growing bandwidth demand from telecom operators, data centres, government agencies, and large enterprises.
Tejas Networks Leadership Comments
“We are delighted to extend our long-standing partnership with PowerTel to augment the backbone capacity of their pan-India DWDM network to address the exploding demand for high-bandwidth connectivity from data centres, telcos, government and large enterprises,” said Arnob Roy, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, Tejas Networks, as per the exchange filings.
Impact and Industry Outlook
The upgrade will position PowerTel to meet the country’s surging data and cloud traffic requirements while improving operational resilience. For Tejas Networks, the contract reinforces its leadership in optical backbone solutions and highlights the commercial adoption of alien wavelength technology at scale in India’s telecom ecosystem.
