Oracle Layoffs 10% of Employees in India Amid Major Restructuring

Oracle’s India operations have undergone a significant shake-up, as the technology major cut nearly 10 per cent of its domestic workforce, as per an India Today report. The scale of the layoffs makes this one of the company’s most substantial staff reductions in the country to date, coming just as Oracle gears up for pivotal shifts in its global strategy.
Layoffs Linked to Strategic Realignment
As per news reports, the reductions, which hit multiple functions such as software development, cloud services, and customer support, underscore the ongoing cost pressures reshaping the tech sector. Oracle has a deep-rooted presence in India, with around 28,824 employees working across major cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Noida, and Kolkata. With about one in every ten staff now impacted, the restructuring marks a significant turning point for one of India’s most prominent IT employers.
As per the news report, according to the company’s June filing, “These types of restructurings have resulted, and may in the future result, in increased restructuring costs and temporarily reduced productivity while employees adjust." The company says workforce adjustments are periodically made to support shifts in business priorities, meet organisational goals, or address performance.
Industry Trends and AI Ambitions
Oracle’s move aligns with a broader industry pattern, as major players including Microsoft, Google, and Amazon have recently announced their own rounds of job cuts in response to rising operational costs and the rapid rise of artificial intelligence. Alongside the layoffs, Oracle has also taken bold steps on the innovation front.
The company has recently partnered with OpenAI in a landmark effort to drive the development of 4.5 gigawatts of fresh Stargate data centre capacity in America. The project, key to OpenAI’s AI infrastructure platform, aims to accelerate job creation, propel advances in the US industry, and broaden the future impact of artificial intelligence.

Conclusion
At a time of profound transformation for technology firms, Oracle’s workforce overhaul in India sits at the intersection of tough economic realities and forward-looking ambition. As the company navigates workforce changes and doubles down on AI, the coming months may be pivotal for both its global strategy and its thousands of Indian employees.
