NOVA Control Tecnologix (NOVA), a subsidiary of e2E Transportation Infrastructure Limited, has entered the railway sector as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). The company will focus on full-stack research, manufacturing, and system integration for railway technology.
As part of its entry, NOVA has partnered with Tata Elxsi to co-develop Kavach 4.0, the next-generation Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system designed to make train travel safer and more efficient. The new facility is located near the Railway Wheel Factory on Doddaballapur Main Road in Yelahanka, Bengaluru.
Kavach 4.0 aims to prevent train collisions by automatically controlling speed, braking, and signalling when drivers fail to respond to warnings. It builds on earlier versions of the Indian Railways’ Kavach system but introduces improved reliability, cybersecurity, and automation standards.
NOVA will take charge as the main OEM, handling manufacturing, testing, and integration of the system. Tata Elxsi will design the hardware and software, create prototypes, and ensure that the system meets Railway Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) norms and SIL4 safety certifications. These are the highest international safety standards for such systems.
The project also highlights Karnataka’s growing role in the country’s technology and mobility sectors. With its strong base in IT, chip design, IoT, and manufacturing, the state is positioning itself as a hub for railway technology development. A proposal to set up a Centre of Excellence for Railway and Mobility Innovation in Karnataka further supports this goal, bringing together engineering talent and advanced infrastructure.
The development of Kavach 4.0 marks a major step toward self-reliance in railway technology. The system represents India’s ability to design and manufacture world-class safety solutions domestically. By combining NOVA’s engineering strength and Tata Elxsi’s experience in safety-critical systems, Kavach 4.0 promises to enhance passenger safety and set new benchmarks in train protection.

The NOVA–Tata Elxsi collaboration is more than a business partnership—it’s a step toward safer, smarter, and more indigenous railways in India. With Kavach 4.0, the country moves closer to achieving global standards in railway safety and technology innovation.
