Nifty IT Index Falls Over 1.5%; Registers Sharpest Single-Day Decline in Over a Month

The key Indian benchmark indices, Nifty and Sensex were seen trading lower on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The Sensex was down 0.46%, while Nifty traded lower by 0.36% near the 24,200 mark.
India VIX rose 2.29% and was trading above the 11.50 mark as of 1:28 PM.
Majority of the key sectoral indices were seen trading in the red with Nifty IT being the worst with as it was trading down by 1.64%.
Nifty IT Index Performance
On August 18, 2026, the Nifty IT index was the top loser among the sectoral indices, falling over 1.5% with this decline, the index recorded its sharpest single-day fall in over one and a half months, marking its sharpest one-day decline since July 1, 2026.
All constituents of Nifty IT index were trading lower led, by Coforge. Coforge share price fell over 2%, making it the top loser in the index.
As of 1:28 PM, the Nifty IT index is seen extending its fall for the third straight session and it has lost about 3.3% in the 3 trading sessions.

Its longer-term performance remains weak, with the index down over 20% on a YTD basis and 13.88% over the past year.
