MOIL Marks First Manganese Ore Export as STE with 54,600-Tonne Dispatch to Indonesia

MOIL Limited, India’s leading manganese ore producer, has achieved a historic milestone with its first export shipment of 54,600 tonnes of manganese ore fines from Visakhapatnam to Indonesia on August 22, 2025.
This marks the company’s debut as a State Trading Enterprise (STE), a role granted by the Government of India for exports of manganese ore below 46% Mn grade.
Framework for Export
The mechanism, established in FY24-25 under India’s Trade Policy, mandates that all manganese ore exports be routed through MOIL. In this arrangement, MOIL acts as the channel for exports with a back-to-back agreement with domestic suppliers, ensuring efficient supply chain management and compliance with trade regulations.
Importance of Low-Grade Ore Exports
The export of manganese ore fines with 25% Mn grade holds strategic significance. India produces surplus low-grade manganese ore, often exceeding domestic demand. By exporting such ore, India not only optimizes its mineral resources but also enhances foreign exchange earnings and strengthens its global footprint in the manganese market.

Conclusion
This first shipment to Indonesia represents an important step for MOIL and India in global trade. CMD Shri Ajit Kumar Saxena commended the team for their efforts and highlighted the importance of efficient operations and strategic planning to drive future international trade growth.
