On Mahaparinirvan Diwas, thousands gather at Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai to honor a leader whose legacy continues to inspire millions.

Each year, Mahaparinirvan Diwas witnesses a large gathering of people from across Maharashtra and beyond. They come not only to pay their respects but also to draw inspiration from Ambedkar’s teachings and his unwavering commitment to equality and justice.

Here’s a quick guide to what remains operational and what doesn’t across the state on this solemn day:

Will Stock Market and Banks Be Open?

Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will be open, with no change to their operating hours. In addition,  the public and private banks, including the State Bank of India, will operate as usual.

What’s Closed?

  • Government Offices: Mumbai and its suburbs observe a local holiday, with both state and semi-government offices closed.
  • Liquor Shops: December 6 is declared a dry day by the Mumbai city collector, meaning all liquor shops will remain closed.
