Jio Platforms Launches JioPC: Transform Your TV Into a Personal Computer

In a significant move towards democratising digital access, Reliance Industries’ digital arm, Jio Platforms, has introduced a new service called JioPC.
This virtual desktop solution is designed to provide affordable computing to millions of Indian households by converting any television connected to a Jio Set Top Box into a fully functional PC.
Currently in a free trial phase, the service aligns with Jio's broader ambition to bridge India’s digital divide by making computing more accessible and cost effective.
JioPC: A New Cloud Desktop Experience
JioPC is a cloud-based virtual desktop service that transforms a regular television set into a working computer. Users only need to connect a keyboard and mouse to their Jio Set Top Box to begin using the service. The desktop interface offers essential tools such as document editing, web browsing, and online learning platforms, making it particularly useful for students and first-time users.
The platform has been developed keeping affordability and accessibility in mind, particularly for regions with low computer penetration. It removes the need for an external CPU, as all computing tasks are performed over the cloud using Jio’s infrastructure.
How JioPC Works
JioPC runs entirely on cloud infrastructure and leverages the Jio Set Top Box, which is available with JioFiber subscriptions or as a standalone device. Once users open the JioPC application on their television, the screen converts into a virtual desktop powered by cloud servers.
It supports LibreOffice out of the box and allows access to Microsoft Office through a web browser. However, more advanced peripherals like webcams and printers are not supported at this stage. The service is tailored for basic tasks and requires a continuous internet connection to function properly.
Steps To Start Using JioPC
Getting started with JioPC is a straightforward process. Here’s how users can activate and begin using the service:
- Open the JioPC App: Switch on your TV connected to the Jio Set Top Box, go to the apps menu, and launch the JioPC icon.
- Connect Keyboard and Mouse: Use either USB or Bluetooth-enabled peripherals and connect them to the Set Top Box.
- Set Up Account: Your basic personal details will be auto-filled; click on “Continue” to proceed.
- Launch Virtual Desktop: Click on “Launch Now” to start using the virtual desktop for study, work, or general use.
Who Can Benefit From JioPC?
JioPC is designed with the everyday user in mind. It is an ideal solution for:
- Students who need access to online classes and learning resources.
- Families with limited access to personal computers.
- Small businesses or users looking for low-cost computing for basic tasks.
