Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel producer, has supplied premium 301N austenitic stainless steel for the Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project. The newly inaugurated Yellow Line, launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, marks a major step in the expansion of Bengaluru’s urban transport system.
Under Phase 2, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has inducted three trainsets from the CRRC–Titagarh Consortium. The full order comprises 53 trainsets, reflecting the project’s scale and its role in addressing the mobility needs of one of India’s fastest-growing cities.
Jindal Stainless has so far supplied 1,031 metric tonnes of 301N stainless steel, with more deliveries to follow.
The supplied stainless steel is recognised for its high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, fire and crash protection, and low carbon footprint. These qualities make it suitable for critical metro coach components, including roofs and structural parts, ensuring safety, durability, and sustainability.
Jindal Stainless has a strong legacy of supporting global and domestic transport infrastructure. It has supplied stainless steel for metro projects in Queensland, Melbourne, and Sydney through Alstom India, and for nearly every metro project in India.
Domestically, its contributions include the Vande Bharat sleeper trains, Vande Metro, Kolkata’s underwater metro, RRTS trains, and Mumbai Metro. Since 1998, the company has been a consistent supplier to Indian Railways for wagons, coaches, and infrastructure.
Commenting on this development, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, Mr Abhyuday Jindal, said: “We are proud to support the modernisation of India’s metro infrastructure, which is central to strengthening urban mobility and aligns with the nation’s vision of building resilient and sustainable transport systems. The use of 301N austenitic stainless steel, a safer and more sustainable material, supports the sustainability goals of modern rail transport. By supplying to the Bangalore metro, we reaffirm our commitment to building safer, long-lasting, and sustainable metro networks.”
On September 10, 2025, Jindal Stainless share price opened at ₹768.75, touching the day’s high at ₹780.85, as of 12:25 PM on the BSE.
