Is the Stock Market (NSE and BSE) Closed Tomorrow, May 28, 2026, for Bakrid (Eid al-Adha)?

NSE and BSE will remain closed on May 28 for Bakri Id, while MCX will operate only in the evening session. Markets will also remain shut on June 26 for Muharram.

Stock Markets To Remain Closed On May 28 

Indian stock exchanges, including: 

  • National Stock Exchange of India
  • Bombay Stock Exchange  

will remain closed on Thursday, May 28, 2026, on account of Bakri Id (Eid al-Adha). 

Trading across equity, derivatives, and currency segments will remain suspended for the entire day. 

The markets will reopen on Friday, May 29. 

Second Trading Holiday In May 

This is the second stock market holiday in May 2026. 

Earlier, exchanges were closed on May 1 for Maharashtra Day. 

MCX To Operate Only In Evening Session 

Multi Commodity Exchange of India will observe a partial holiday on May 28. 

  • Morning session (9 AM to 5 PM): Closed
  • Evening session (5 PM onwards): Open  

The evening trading session will continue until 11:30 PM or 11:55 PM depending on the commodity category. 

Stock Market Holidays In June 2026 

The next stock market holiday after Bakri Id will fall on: 

  • June 26, 2026 (Friday) for Muharram  

There are no trading holidays scheduled in July 2026.

The remaining exchange holidays in calendar year 2026 are: 

  • May 28 – Bakri Id
  • June 26 – Muharram
  • September 14 – Ganesh Chaturthi
  • October 2 – Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
  • October 20 – Dussehra
  • November 10 – Diwali-Balipratipada
  • November 24 – Guru Nanak Jayanti
  • December 25 – Christmas  

Out of the total 16 market holidays in 2026, eight are still remaining. 

Banks Also Closed In Most Cities 

Banks across most major Indian cities will also remain closed on May 28 for Bakri Id. 

However, banks in: 

  • Bhubaneswar
  • Gangtok
  • Guwahati
  • Itanagar  

are expected to remain open. 

Additionally, some bank branches in cities such as Guwahati, Jammu, Kochi, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram are already closed on May 27 due to regional Bakrid observance. 

Conclusion 

NSE and BSE will remain closed on May 28 for Bakri Id, while MCX will reopen only for the evening session. Investors and traders should also note that the next stock market holiday will fall on June 26 for Muharram.
