Indian Railways to Run 392 Special Trains for Ganesh Chaturthi

‘Indian Railways has announced that it will run 392 special train trips during Ganesh Chaturthi to help passengers travel smoothly and reduce festival rush. These trains will operate between August 21 and September 10, the Railways said in a post on X.

About Ganesh Chaturthi

This year, Ganesh Chaturthi begins on August 27 and ends on Anantha Chaturdashi. Also called Vinayak Chaturthi or Vinayak Chavithi, the festival celebrates Lord Ganesha, the god of new beginnings and remover of obstacles. Devotees decorate homes and pandals, perform prayers, and take part in music-filled processions across India and abroad.

Maharashtra Declares State Festival

In July, the Maharashtra government declared Ganeshotsav as the “Maharashtra State Festival.” Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar told the Assembly that the tradition of public celebrations began in 1893 under Lokmanya Tilak, who introduced it as a unifying social and cultural practice.

Protecting Cultural Heritage

Shelar highlighted that Ganeshotsav reflects Maharashtra’s pride in culture, freedom, language, and self-respect. He added that while some groups have tried to challenge public celebrations in courts, the government has worked under CM Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar to remove restrictions and preserve the festival’s traditions.
