The Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website will be upgraded and made available by 15 July, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Thursday, as per news reports.
The announcement came during an event in Rajasthan after students spoke about the difficulties they face while booking train tickets through the online platform.
Students informed the minister that the existing website, including its CAPTCHA verification process, often creates hurdles during ticket reservations.
After hearing the feedback, Vaishnaw asked officials whether a new website could be prepared within 30 days and later confirmed the planned launch date of 15 July.
Apart from the railway announcement, the minister said an Advanced Quantum Computing and Quantum Communications Lab will be set up at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur.
The facility will be developed under the Electronics and ICT Academic Project of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and will support work in Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), quantum computing simulation and quantum sensing hardware components.
He also said MNIT students will be given access to Lam Research's Semiverse, a digital twin-based semiconductor fabrication and training platform.
Vaishnaw also virtually inaugurated a 20 KW Akashvani FM transmitter at Ramgarh in Jaisalmer from Jaipur. The addition takes the number of FM transmitters in Rajasthan to 39.
The new transmitter is to provide coverage across an 80-kilometre radius, reaching nearly 20,000 square kilometres in the border region.
