Hinduja Group Signs MoU for ₹2,500 Crore Investment in Tamil Nadu

The Hinduja Group has signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government for investments of ₹2,500 crore in the state, as per The Economic Times news report.
The plan covers renewable energy, electric mobility, automotive, financial services, energy, battery charging infrastructure, and digital mobility solutions.
Renewable Energy Projects
Hinduja Renewables Energy Private Limited (HREPL) is to develop more than 200 MW of renewable energy projects. The projects will use solar, wind, and battery technologies.
The group will seek land and connectivity support in identified areas, including Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar, Madurai, and Coimbatore, for these projects.
Electric Mobility
OHM Global Mobility will operationalise electric buses for public transport in Tamil Nadu and expand its mobility solutions value chain. The plan also includes battery charging infrastructure and digital mobility solutions.
The group will also explore opportunities in automotive, financial services and energy under the ₹2,500 crore investment plan.
Existing Businesses
The Hinduja Group already operates several businesses in Tamil Nadu, including Ashok Leyland, Gulf Oil India, Hinduja Leyland Finance, Hinduja Housing Finance, Switch Mobility, Ohm Mobility, Gro Digital and Hinduja Tech.
The latest commitment follows a ₹7,500 crore MoU signed by Hinduja Group UK with the Tamil Nadu government in September 2025. The earlier agreement covered battery manufacturing, battery energy storage systems, and charging infrastructure for the state’s electric vehicle ecosystem.
Ashok Leyland Facility
Ashok Leyland broke ground in March 2026 for a ₹500 crore greenfield battery pack manufacturing facility at Pillaipakkam near Chennai.
Ashok Hinduja, Chairman of Hinduja Group of Companies (India), said the group intends to build on its existing association with Tamil Nadu through investments in clean energy, electric mobility and other areas.

The ₹2,500 crore investment will cover renewable energy, electric buses, battery infrastructure and other businesses, alongside Hinduja Group’s existing operations.
