Google is exploring investment opportunities in India linked to artificial intelligence infrastructure and the manufacturing of servers and drones, Union IT and Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday, as per the PTI report.

The minister shared the update after a meeting with company executives. The discussions come amid rising investments by global technology firms in AI computing capacity, cloud infrastructure, and hardware supply chains.

Andhra Pradesh AI Hub

The development follows Google’s earlier announcement of a $15 billion investment plan in Visakhapatnam. The project includes a 1 GW hyperscale AI data centre along with 3 data centre campuses planned under a larger AI infrastructure programme.

The project is being developed with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel. The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted close to 600 acres of land across Turluvada, Rambilli and Adavivaram for the proposed facilities.

Construction work for the project began in April this year. At the event, Vaishnaw said India was expanding its role in global electronics manufacturing and supply chains.

Push for Domestic Hardware Production

During the ceremony, the minister also asked multinational technology companies to increase manufacturing of servers, GPUs and semiconductor-related equipment within India.

The government has been encouraging investments in electronics and semiconductor production through incentive schemes for reducing import dependence and increasing local manufacturing capacity.

The latest discussions around servers and drones indicate a possible expansion beyond data centres into hardware-related production activities.

Global AI Spending

The India plans come alongside higher global spending by Google on AI infrastructure. At the Google Cloud Next 2026 event last month, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the company planned capital expenditure of $185 billion this year.

Pichai also said more than 50% of the company’s machine learning computing resources would be allocated to its cloud business, is indicative of increasing demand for AI-related services.

Conclusion

Google’s ongoing discussions in India currently cover AI infrastructure, cloud capacity and manufacturing-related opportunities, including servers and drones, as the company expands its long-term technology investments in the country.
