Google has outlined fresh collaborations and funding initiatives aimed at driving artificial intelligence adoption across key sectors in India, including healthcare and agriculture.
These efforts build on the company’s broader commitment to deepen AI research and practical applications in the country.
As part of the new commitments, Google said it will contribute $8 million to India’s AI Centres of Excellence, supporting work in health, agriculture, education and sustainable urban development.
The company also pledged $4,00,000 specifically for collaborations that leverage an AI model called MedGemma to develop India-focused health foundation models.
Google said it will provide $4.5 million to Wadhwani AI for development of multilingual AI solutions in health and agriculture. It also announced a contribution of $2 million to establish an Indic Language Technologies Research Hub at IIT Bombay, intended to support AI research and development for India’s diverse linguistic landscape.
Grants of $50,000 each have been awarded to startups such as Gnani.AI, CoRover.AI and BharatGen for work on Indic language AI models.
In addition to funding, Google said it will work with experts from institutions including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences to build clinical models for applications such as dermatology and outpatient triage.
These models are expected to integrate into India’s Digital Public Infrastructure and be made available to the wider ecosystem.
The funding and partnerships align with broader industry and policy priorities for AI in India, where the technology is seen as key to solving challenges in public health, agriculture, sustainability and economic inclusion.
