Global Markets Shift: Nifty, Sensex Fall Behind as KSE Outperforms

Global markets have seen remarkable growth in recent years. While indices like the KOSPI, Nikkei, and Nasdaq have registered impressive gains, India's key indices, the Nifty 50 and Sensex, have been unable to keep pace.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's KSE 100 index has surged, marking 110% growth. This divergence reflects economic influences and currency dynamics impacting these markets.
Performance of Global Indices
In the last 2 years, many global indices have experienced upward movement. The South Korean KOSPI index soared from 2,650 to 6,890, marking a 160% return. Similarly, Japan's Nikkei 225 climbed from 39,829 to a high of 67,034, showing a 68.30% rise.
The Nasdaq followed closely, increasing from 18,120 to 27,068, a growth of 106%. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 index advanced from 5,738 to 7,743, logging a 35% gain over the same period.
Performance of Nifty and Sensex
The Nifty 50 index saw a decline from 26,179 to 22,807 over 2 years, resulting in a 12.88% decrease. The BSE Sensex mirrored this trend, falling from 85,571 to 73,734, a reduction of 13.83%.
The weaker performance of these indices is tied to several factors, including fluctuations in the Indian rupee against the US dollar.
A Surging Islamabad Market
Pakistan's KSE 100 index demonstrated resilience, moving from 81,000 to 1,70,000, registering a 110% increase. This ascent was supported by economic stabilisation measures, including a $7 billion IMF loan and shifts in monetary policies towards lower interest rates, aiding in bridging demand-supply constraints.

Impacts of Currency and Economic Conditions
The Indian market struggled as fluctuations in the rupee led to foreign investment outflows. This outflow was exacerbated by a shift in foreign investments towards markets like South Korea and Taiwan, perceived as creators in the AI sector, compared to India's user status. The changes in economic policies in Pakistan also contributed notably to its market's strong performance.
Conclusion
Over the past 2 years, the KOSPI rose by 160%, the Nikkei by 68.30%, Nasdaq by 106%, and S&P 500 by 35%. Conversely, the Nifty fell by 12.88% and Sensex by 13.83%. Pakistan's KSE 100 surged 110% due to economic measures.
