India’s benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are likely to open flat on Tuesday, mirroring the subdued global market trend as investors await the outcome of US President Donald Trump’s meeting with European leaders aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The Gift Nifty was hovering near 24,988, about 21 points higher than Nifty futures’ previous close, indicating a slightly positive opening for Indian equities.

Asian Market Overview

Asian markets traded mixed on Tuesday after Wall Street closed largely unchanged overnight. Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.4%, while the Topix index was flat. South Korea’s Kospi edged down 0.01% and the Kosdaq declined 0.33%. Meanwhile, futures for Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index pointed to a positive start.

Wall Street Insights

US markets ended nearly flat on Monday amid choppy trading as investors awaited earnings reports from major retailers. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 34.30 points, or 0.08%, to 44,911.82, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.65 points, or 0.01%, to 6,449.15. The Nasdaq Composite edged up 6.80 points, or 0.03%, to 21,629.77.

Among key movers, Intel shares fell 3.66%, Dayforce surged 26%, SunRun gained 11.35%, and First Solar jumped 9.69%.

Domestic Market Recap

On Monday, Indian markets ended with strong gains, supported by a mix of domestic and global cues. Sentiment was lifted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of GST reforms, S&P Global’s upgrade of India’s credit rating, and optimism over a possible resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war.

The Sensex advanced 676.09 points, or 0.84%, to close at 81,273.75, while the Nifty 50 climbed 245.65 points, or 1.00%, to settle at 24,876.95.
