GE Aerospace has announced a fresh investment of ₹100 crore in its Pune manufacturing facility, as per PTI reports. The company said the investment will be used for infrastructure upgrades and manufacturing-related additions at the plant.

With the latest investment, GE Aerospace’s total allocation for the Pune facility has crossed ₹510 crore over the past 3 years. Earlier investments worth about ₹410 crore had been announced for the site.

The Pune unit manufactures components used in commercial aircraft engines supplied to global markets.

New Equipment to Be Added

According to the company, the latest investment will support the addition of welding technologies, advanced inspection equipment, precision tools, fixtures, and gauges.

GE Aerospace said the Pune facility manufactures components linked to engine programmes such as GE90, GEnx and GE9X. The unit also supports production connected to LEAP engines manufactured by CFM International.

CFM International is a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran.

The company said earlier investments at the plant focused on automation, manufacturing processes and capability expansion for next-generation engine components.

Supplier Base and India Operations

The Pune facility works with more than 300 local suppliers, according to the company. GE Aerospace’s supplier network in India includes over 2,200 suppliers.

The company said more than 1,400 GE and CFM commercial engines are currently powering aircraft operated by Indian airlines.

Apart from commercial aviation, GE Aerospace also supplies engines and systems used by the Indian armed forces. These include systems used in the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas Mk1, helicopters, naval frigates and aircraft carriers.

GE Aerospace also operates a technology centre in Bengaluru.

Workforce and Training

Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of GE Aerospace Pune manufacturing facility, said the company remains focused on manufacturing and workforce training in India.

According to the company, the Pune facility has trained more than 5,000 production associates since 2015. The company added that expansion at the site is to support apprenticeship and employment opportunities linked to the supplier network in the region.
