France’s Safran to Establish Rafale Jet Engine Maintenance Unit in Hyderabad

French aerospace company Safran has announced the launch of a new unit in Hyderabad named Safran Aircraft Engine Services India. This facility will be dedicated to the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of M88 engines used in Dassault Aviation’s Rafale fighter jets, as per the PTI report.
The new site is expected to become operational by the end of the year and marks a significant expansion of Safran’s presence in India. The initiative is projected to create around 150 jobs by 2025, with further expansion potentially generating up to 750 additional roles.
Strengthening Aerospace Manufacturing Ties in Hyderabad
In addition to Safran’s latest investment, Dassault Aviation and Tata Advanced Systems Limited recently signed 4 Production Transfer Agreements aimed at manufacturing key structural components of the Rafale aircraft in Hyderabad. Notably, this marks the first time that the Rafale fuselage will be manufactured in India, both for domestic use and export, as part of a new facility being developed by Tata Advanced Systems in the city.
Telangana’s Growing Aerospace Ecosystem
Safran currently operates 2 facilities in Hyderabad - one that manufactures electrical harnesses for CFM LEAP engines and Rafale jets, and another that produces rotating parts for the LEAP engine’s low-pressure turbine.
The company expressed appreciation for the Telangana government’s continuous support and reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to the region’s fast-growing aerospace sector. The new projects are expected to further solidify Telangana’s position as a leading aerospace hub in India.
