Electric Vehicle Sales in India Rise 75.14% in April 2026, Tata Motors Leads the Race

Electric vehicle sales across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and commercial vehicles recorded strong growth in April 2026, according to FADA data.

Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) reported strong growth in India’s electric vehicle market during April 2026, with demand rising across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers and commercial vehicle categories. 

Electric Passenger Vehicle Sales Rise Over 75% 

Electric passenger vehicle sales in India increased 75.14% year-on-year to 23,506 units in April 2026, compared with 13,421 units in the same month last year. 

Tata Motors remained the market leader in the segment, selling 8,543 electric passenger vehicles during the month, up from 4,822 units in April 2025. This represented a growth of 77.17%. 

Mahindra & Mahindra ranked 2nd with sales of 5,413 units, compared with 3,301 units in the corresponding month last year, reflecting a growth of 63.98%. 

JSW MG Motor India followed with 5,006 units sold in April 2026, compared with 3,777 units a year earlier, registering growth of 32.54%. 

Electric 2-Wheeler Market Maintains Strong Momentum 

The electric 2-wheeler segment also recorded substantial expansion during the month. Total sales rose to 1,48,740 units in April 2026 from 92,538 units in April 2025, reflecting a 60.73% increase. 

TVS Motor Company led the category with sales of 37,683 units, sharply higher than 19,976 units sold in the same period last year. The company recorded growth of 88.64%. 

Bajaj Auto secured the second position with 32,898 units, compared with 19,162 units last year, representing a growth of 71.68%. 

Ather Energy ranked third after reporting sales of 27,034 units against 13,332 units in April 2025, marking the highest growth among major players at 102.78%. 

3-Wheeler and Commercial EV Segments Also Expand 

Electric 3-wheeler retail sales stood at 64,549 units in April 2026, compared with 62,489 units in April last year, reflecting a growth of 3.3%. 

The electric commercial vehicle segment witnessed even stronger momentum, with retail sales more than doubling to 2,245 units from 902 units in the year-ago period.

The latest FADA data highlighted sustained growth in India’s electric mobility market, with passenger vehicles and two-wheelers driving the strongest expansion while commercial EV adoption also accelerated sharply during April 2026.
