Cognizant has entered into an agreement to acquire 3Cloud, a US-based Microsoft Azure services provider, as per the news reports.

The companies expect the transaction to close in the first quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory clearance. Neither side has disclosed the financial terms.

Additional Capacity and Skills

Through the acquisition, Cognizant will add over 1,000 Azure specialists and nearly 1,200 employees from 3Cloud, including about 700 staff in the United States. This also brings around 1,500 Microsoft certifications, expanding the size of Cognizant’s existing Azure practice.

Size of the Combined Azure Operation

After integration, the organisation will have more than 21,000 Azure-certified professionals. The combined team has received several Microsoft awards across areas such as AI, automation and systems integration. This scale places it among Microsoft’s larger global Azure partners.

Role in AI and Cloud Work

Cognizant said the acquisition supports its plans to help enterprises build and run AI tools on modern cloud systems. 3Cloud contributes experience in Azure, data platforms and application development. These capabilities will be added to Cognizant’s cloud and AI portfolio.

Background on 3Cloud

3Cloud was founded by former Microsoft executives and works with clients in banking, healthcare, technology and consumer industries. The company has recorded about 20% organic CAGR since 2020. It has also earned Microsoft Partner of the Year awards in categories including Data & AI, Migration to Azure, Health & Life Sciences and Application Modernisation.

Interest in Azure-related work has remained strong. Microsoft reported 40% year-on-year growth in Azure and other cloud services in Q3 2025. Many organisations continue to invest in data management, analytics and cloud migration, which has supported the demand for Azure specialists.

Leadership Comments

Executives from Cognizant, 3Cloud and Microsoft said the combined strengths across cloud, data and application work would support Azure-related projects for clients in different regions.

Conclusion

If approved, the transaction will create a larger Azure-focused unit within Cognizant, adding more depth in cloud, data and AI services as organisations continue moving to Azure-led systems.
