Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) reported revenue of around ₹25,000 crore over the last 2 years, according to an official statement released on Monday.
The increase comes after network upgrades and infrastructure work carried out across multiple telecom circles.
The statement cited comments made by Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani during an interview with Prasar Bharati. BSNL’s revenue earlier stood at around ₹21,000 crore, indicating a rise of nearly 19% during the period.
The government reviewed BSNL’s operations to identify issues affecting network quality and service availability. According to the statement, lower tower uptime and ageing infrastructure were among the areas examined during the review process.
In Andhra Pradesh, tower uptime was around 75%. The company later fixed a target of 95% and undertook repair work across tower locations and power systems.
BSNL replaced around 50,000 batteries across telecom towers, upgraded power plants, and changed ageing cables in several circles. State-level targets were also introduced for enterprise business and new mobile subscriber additions.
The statement said BSNL’s EBITDA increased from nearly ₹50 crore to around ₹7,000 crore over 2 years. The company reported total income of ₹21,302 crore in FY24. This later increased to ₹23,427 crore in FY25.
BSNL has also expanded its indigenous 4G network during the period. According to the minister, indigenous 4G technology was rolled out across 1,00,000 towers within a year.
The company has additionally started distributing ₹1 SIM cards through India Post offices, mainly targeting rural areas where BSNL continues to maintain telecom coverage.
