The BSE SENSEX Index opened the October 5, 2026, session with a strong outlook at 72,340.95 and registered an intraday low of 72,098.84 soon after opening. The index later touched an intraday high of 72,631.93. 

BSE SENSEX Index Performance on October 5, 2026 

The BSE SENSEX index opened above its previous close at the 72,340.95 level and hit an intraday low of 72,098.84. 

As the session progressed, strong buying interest emerged, lifting the index by over 720 points from its previous close to touch a high of 72,631.93. 

At 10:49 AM, the index was trading at 72,140.87, up by 231.17 points or 0.32% on October 5, 2026. 

Advance Decline Ratio of BSE SENSEX Index on October 5, 2026 

The market breadth of BSE SENSEX remained positive during the morning session on October 5, 2026, with 18 stocks advancing and 11 stocks declining with one no change. 

Broad-based buying was observed across index heavyweights, leaving the vast majority of index constituents in the green. 

Top Gainers and Losers of BSE SENSEX Index on October 5, 2026 

The market index recorded widespread gains across its constituents during the session as of 10:49 AM. 

Among the gainers, Bajaj Finance (BAJFINANCE) led the advance with a Last Traded Price (LTP) of 986.50, gaining 37.15 points (+3.91%). 

It was followed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which rose by 38.20 points (+1.84%) to an LTP of 2,117.50. 

ITC (ITC) also traded firm at an LTP of 260.70 with a value increase of 3.70 points (+1.44%),while Bajaj Finserv (BAJAJFINSV) rounded out the top gainers at an LTP of 1,752.95, adding 23.05 points (+1.33%). 

Conversely, heavy selling pressure was observed among the top losers, HCL Technologies (HCLTECH) dropped the sharpest in percentage terms, falling by 31.60 points (-2.54%) to an LTP of 1,214.40. 

Asian Paints (ASIANPAINT) also faced notable corrections, shedding 52.50 points (-2.18%) to reach an LTP of 2,353.75. 

Infosys (INFY) lost value, decreasing by 15.35 points (-1.48%) to trade at an LTP of 1,019.65,while Bharat Electronics (BEL) slid close behind, dropping by 5.50 points (-1.43%) to cross an LTP of 378.00.

Conclusion 

On Monday, October 5, 2026, the BSE SENSEX Index traded with gains of 0.32% by midday, supported by broad-based buying. Strength in Bajaj Finance, Tata Consultancy Services and ITC lifted the index higher even as a few constituents lagged the broader move.
