BNP Paribas Invests in Eternal with ₹3,200 Crore Purchase, Divests Stake in Swiggy

BNP Paribas Financial Markets purchased 10.12 crore shares of Eternal, the parent company of Zomato, through a block deal on August 26, 2025. As per the data from NSE, the shares were acquired at ₹318.1 each, taking the deal value to about ₹3,200 crore. In a separate bulk deal, it sold 16,083 Eternal shares for ₹51 lakh.
Stake Sale in Swiggy
On the same day, BNP Paribas offloaded 2.69 crore shares of Swiggy at ₹430.38 per share, amounting to about ₹1,158 crore. It also purchased 4.34 lakh shares of the company at ₹426.68 per share, worth ₹18.54 crore.
As per news reports, last month, BNP Paribas bought 3.2 lakh shares in Swiggy at ₹381 per share, when Citigroup Global Markets sold its stake.
Other Transactions
BNP Paribas carried out other divestments across listed firms. It sold 4,19,164 shares of Hitachi Energy India Ltd at ₹19,794.72 per share, for ₹829 crore. In Vishal Mega Mart, it sold 5.53 crore shares at ₹152.80 each, amounting to ₹ 845.13 crore.
The firm also offloaded 17.83 lakh shares of Waaree Energies at ₹3,266.21 per share, translating to ₹583 crore.

Swiggy and Eternal Share Price Performance
As of August 29, 2025, 10:13 AM, Eternal share price was trading at ₹309.65, down ₹5.85 (−1.85%), while Swiggy share price stood at ₹410.85, lower by ₹10.15 (−2.41%). So far this year, Eternal’s stock has gained over 14%, while Swiggy has dropped more than 20%. Both continue to compete in the quick commerce space.
Conclusion
BNP Paribas’ trades added up to over ₹3,000 crore in sales across firms, alongside the ₹3,200 crore purchase in Eternal, showing a large reshuffle in holdings.
