BEML has signed a 4-party Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Umeandus Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. (UTIPL).

The MoU was signed on 14 November 2025 at the Partnership Summit held in Visakhapatnam. As per the exchange filings, this agreement links the organisations for work related to cargo handling at a port in Andhra Pradesh.

Purpose of the MoU

The arrangement focuses on building a Real Time Automatic Cargo Evacuation System, called e-FTS (Enhanced Freight Transport System). The system is intended to record cargo movement continuously and shift cargo automatically within the port area. APMB is the client for the project. DMRC, BEML and UTIPL will work jointly on creating and operating the pilot system.

Pilot Project Location

The pilot will be carried out at Machilipatnam Port. This port has been chosen for the trial as it handles mixed cargo and has room for testing new movement processes. The pilot aims to check whether automated evacuation can reduce the time taken for cargo to move from one point of the port to another.

The trial results will help outline the next steps once the initial phase is completed.

Division of Responsibilities

DMRC will act as the lead partner, coordinating the work between the other participants. BEML and UTIPL will support the technical and operational parts of the project. This includes planning the equipment needed, preparing the system layout and ensuring that the software and hardware work together in a port setting. The structure allows each organisation to contribute from its area of experience.

Relevance for Port Operations

Many ports are reviewing their cargo-handling processes as freight volumes increase. Automated evacuation systems are one option being tested to understand how far real-time monitoring can help reduce waiting periods and improve movement within port limits. This pilot offers a controlled setup to observe how the system functions under actual working conditions.

BEML Share Price Performance

As of November 17, 2025, 12:24 PM, BEML share price is trading at ₹2,009.40, a 0.02% decrease from the previous closing price.

Conclusion

The MoU sets the framework for testing an automated cargo evacuation system at Machilipatnam Port. The findings from the pilot will inform any further use of this approach at other locations.
