BEML Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and Umeandus Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. (UTIPL). As per the filing, the agreement covers the development of a Real-Time Automatic Cargo Evacuation System, also known as the Enhanced Freight Transport System (e-FTS).

Project Scope

The project will be implemented as a pilot at Kandla Port in Gujarat. It focuses on creating an automated system for moving cargo directly between ships and the shore in real time. The system will handle both bulk and container cargo, aiming to streamline port operations and reduce manual intervention.

Participants and Roles

According to the agreement, DPA will act as the client, while DMRC will serve as the lead member. BEML and UTIPL will participate as execution partners. The detailed responsibilities of each organisation will be finalised under a separate definitive agreement. DMRC will manage operations and maintenance for 25 years once the system becomes operational.

Technical Aspects

The proposed e-FTS system will use automated processes to load and unload cargo, reducing dependence on berth depth and conventional port handling. It is suitable for both existing and new port projects and is expected to improve turnaround efficiency. The system is also designed to reduce the need for dredging by enabling cargo transfer in deeper waters.

Industry Coordination

DMRC brings experience in infrastructure development, BEML contributes equipment and engineering support, and UTIPL provides the technological framework. Together, the organisations plan to demonstrate a functioning model that could be adopted in other Indian ports in the future.
