Bangladesh’s HC has put Adani Power’s arbitration plans on hold, saying a tariff probe must conclude before any dispute is taken to Singapore.

Bangladesh’s High Court has stopped Adani Power from taking its billing dispute to international arbitration in Singapore, as per PTI. The judges said the case must wait until a court-appointed committee finishes reviewing the company’s power contract with the state-run Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).

Price Concerns at the Centre

A petition before the court called the deal “one-sided”, pointing to how much Bangladesh pays for Adani’s electricity. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024, the tariff stood at 14.87 taka ($0.122) per unit. This is higher than the 9.57 taka-per-unit average paid to other Indian suppliers.

State-owned Indian producers charge roughly 5.5 taka per unit, private firms around 8.5 taka, while power imported from Nepal costs about 8 taka.

Godda Plant’s Share in Supply

The pricing dispute relates to electricity from Adani’s 1,600 MW coal-fired Godda plant in eastern India. The plant supplies nearly a tenth of Bangladesh’s total demand. Even as both sides remain in talks over payments, the court action has paused Adani’s attempt to shift the dispute overseas.

Tax Benefit Issue Raises Further Questions

Bangladesh’s interim government has earlier alleged that Adani did not pass on tax benefits received in India, which it claims should have lowered electricity prices. Adani has said only the cost calculations are being disputed and insisted that the contract calls for arbitration through the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.

Petition Seeks Accountability First

The lawyer who filed the petition argued that arbitration would weaken the relevance of the ongoing investigation. With the court order now in place, the arbitration cannot move forward until the inquiry report is submitted.

Adani Power Share Price Performance

As of November 21, 2025, 3:16 pm,  Adani Power share price was trading at ₹149.16, a 1.52% decline from the previous closing price.

Conclusion

The panel’s findings will decide whether the power deal stays unchanged or is renegotiated, making the review a step before any further legal action.
