Indian stock markets are closed on May 1, 2026, in observance of Maharashtra Day, marking the formation of the state where the country’s key exchanges are headquartered. Trading on both the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited will resume on Monday, May 4, 2026.

Segments Closed Today

All segments across the equity markets remain shut, including:

  • Equity trading
  • Equity derivatives
  • Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) 

Normal Trading Hours

On regular trading days, the market schedule is:

  • Pre-open session: 9:00 AM – 9:15 AM
  • Regular trading session: 9:15 AM – 3:30 PM

Markets are also closed on weekends and public holidays. 

Commodity Market Schedule

Commodity exchanges follow a different timetable:

  • National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange: Closed for the entire day
  • Multi Commodity Exchange of India:
  • Morning session (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM): Closed
  • Evening session (5:00 PM – 11:55 PM): Open

Markets will remain closed again on May 28 for Bakri Id.
