The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed today on April 14 in observance of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar Jayanti, marking the birth anniversary of the architect of the Indian Constitution.

This will be the second stock market holiday in April (excluding weekends), following the closure on Good Friday, April 3.

On April 14, trading activities across equity, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), and electronic gold receipts (EGR) segments will be suspended.

Stock Market Holidays in 2026

According to the NSE holiday calendar, there are 16 trading holidays in 2026 (excluding Saturdays and Sundays). The remaining scheduled market holidays are:

  • April 14: Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti (Tuesday)
  • May 1: Maharashtra Day (Friday)
  • May 28: Bakri Id (Thursday)
  • June 26: Muharram (Friday)
  • September 14: Ganesh Chaturthi (Monday)
  • October 2: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (Friday)
  • October 20: Dussehra (Tuesday)
  • November 10: Diwali Balipratipada (Tuesday)
  • November 24: Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev (Tuesday)
  • December 25: Christmas (Friday)

About Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti

Observed every year on April 14, Ambedkar Jayanti commemorates the birth of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (1891–1956), a distinguished jurist, economist, social reformer, and the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.

Also known as Bhim Jayanti or Equality Day, the occasion honours his lifelong struggle against social discrimination and caste inequality, as well as his efforts to secure fundamental rights and justice for marginalized communities across India.
