Anthropic to Open Bengaluru Office in 2026, Accelerating AI Expansion Across India

AI research firm Anthropic, the creator of the Claude model, is set to open its first Indian office in Bengaluru by early 2026, marking a major step in its international expansion and reaffirming its commitment to advancing responsible AI in line with India’s growing tech ambitions, as per the news reports.

Building a Strong Local Presence

Anthropic’s Bengaluru office will be its second in the Indo-Pacific region after Tokyo, serving as a base for developing AI solutions tailored to India’s diverse market. The new facility will host an in-market team focusing on local innovations that integrate AI responsibly into businesses and social initiatives.

As per the news reports, Dario Amodei, Co-Founder and CEO of Anthropic, said, “India is compelling because of the scale of its technical talent and the commitment from the Indian government to ensure the benefits of artificial intelligence reach all areas of society, not just concentrated pockets.”

Claude’s Expanding Reach in India

Anthropic’s flagship model, Claude, is already gaining traction in India. Available via Anthropic API, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Cloud Vertex AI, it enables secure enterprise integration. Indian developers also use Claude Code, the company’s AI command-line tool for productivity enhancement through natural language inputs.

Globally, Anthropic serves over 300,000 business clients, with 80% of Claude’s users now outside the US. India ranks second globally in usage, primarily for software development and design. Local platform Emergent has successfully embedded Claude into its “vibe coding” system, helping democratise app development.

Focus on Indic Languages and Social Impact

Anthropic is investing heavily in expanding Claude’s Indic language support, beginning with Hindi, followed by Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu. The localisation push aims to make AI accessible to more Indians and to strengthen its use in education, governance, and public services.
