Amul Ghee and Butter Become Costlier Ahead of Diwali; Check Revised Rates!

Amul has increased the prices of butter and ghee ahead of Diwali, with some products becoming costlier by up to ₹50, as per The Economic Times news report.
The revision comes amid rising festive demand and reports of ghee shortages across several markets, particularly in Gujarat.
Amul Butter and Ghee Prices Revised
According to a Times of India report, a 1-kg carton of Amul ghee now costs ₹680, compared with ₹630 earlier, an increase of ₹50. The price of a 500-gm pure ghee pouch has risen by ₹20 to ₹345.
Butter prices have also changed. A 100-gm pack now costs ₹66 against ₹63 previously, while a 500-gm pack is priced at ₹325, up from ₹310.
Amul's online platform lists cow ghee at ₹740 per litre, Sagar ghee at ₹710, pure ghee at ₹700 and buffalo ghee at ₹720. Some varieties were marked as sold out.
Shortages Reported Across Markets
Retailers in Ahmedabad and Vadodara have reported limited availability of Amul cow ghee since the Ganesh festival. A D-Mart outlet in Ahmedabad's Satellite area reportedly had no Amul ghee or butter stocks on Tuesday.
Supply disruptions were also reported in Pune, Kolkata and Jammu and Kashmir. The exact reasons remain unclear.
Demand Rises Following Adulteration Crackdown
A cooperative leader associated with Amul linked higher demand for branded ghee to action against adulterated products in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Around 2 lakh kg of duplicate ghee was reportedly seized across both states over six months. Nearly 45% of annual ghee consumption occurs during the festive season, according to the leader.
Earlier GST Price Cuts
In September 2025, Amul reduced prices across 700 dairy products after GST fell from 12% to 5%.
A one-litre ghee carton became ₹40 cheaper at ₹610, while a 500-gm butter pack fell from ₹305 to ₹285.

Conclusion
The latest revisions have partly offset earlier GST-related savings. Consumers are now facing higher prices alongside limited availability of certain Amul ghee varieties during the festive period.
