Amazon Web Services (AWS) will invest ₹12.7 billion in India by 2030, as per the Business Standard reports. The funds will go toward building cloud infrastructure, including data centres, networking, and AI computing capacity. This is part of a strategy to develop India as a key contributor in the artificial general intelligence (AGI) space.

Focus on AI and Developer Ecosystem

AWS is banking on India’s developer base and startup ecosystem to scale AI-related work. The company has said that the country’s tech talent is well-positioned to drive platform usage and build new applications across industries. This is part of AWS's global AI efforts.

AWS already operates 2 infrastructure regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Since 2016, it has invested billions in India’s data infrastructure and trained over 4 million people in cloud skills. The upcoming investment will build on this base and scale operations further.

New Tools and Marketplace Launch

As per the report, the company plans to support enterprise and public sector use of generative AI tools such as Amazon Q Business, Bedrock, and SageMaker. AWS is also preparing to launch its AWS Marketplace in India by the end of 2025. The platform will offer software procurement services to businesses.

Economic and Job Impact

A previous AWS investment of ₹8.3 billion in Maharashtra, which is part of the total ₹12.7 billion plan, is expected to create over 81,000 full-time jobs annually and contribute around ₹15 billion to India’s GDP by 2030. The current investment is expected to follow similar patterns in economic impact.
