The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is actively promoting the food processing sector through major schemes like PMFME, PMKSY, and PLISFPI. A total of 1,44,517 micro food processing units across India, including 25,349 in Bihar, have received support under PMFME as of June 30, 2025.
Under the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, MoFPI provides a credit-linked capital subsidy of 35% on eligible project costs with a ceiling of ₹10,00,000 per unit.
It supports new and existing units aiming for technological advancement, improved infrastructure and enhanced competitiveness in the food processing value chain. As of June 30, 2025, 1,44,517 micro enterprises across India have been approved under this scheme, playing a critical role in strengthening the food processing MSME sector.
The PMFME scheme also offers comprehensive training through its capacity-building component. This includes training of trainers, entrepreneurs, district resource persons and skilling for entrepreneurship development. Till June 30, 2025, nearly 1,16,666 individuals have been trained, contributing to a skilled workforce in the food processing ecosystem.
Alongside PMFME, PMKSY, and PLISFPI are central sector schemes that offer financial incentives and infrastructure development assistance for food processing units, including MSMEs. These demand-driven schemes focus on scalability and market competitiveness and are being implemented in all states, including Bihar.

These figures highlight Bihar’s robust participation in central schemes aimed at uplifting micro and small food processing businesses within the state, thereby creating employment and enhancing rural income.
The MoFPI’s integrated initiatives under PMFME, PMKSY and PLISFPI have proven instrumental in uplifting India’s micro food processing sector. By supporting over 1.44 lakh micro-enterprises and skilling over 1.16 lakh individuals, the ministry is paving the way for sustainable growth in MSMEs within the food processing industry.
