SpaceX is preparing for what could become one of the largest public offerings globally, as it engages with major institutional investors ahead of its anticipated market debut.
As per Reuters, the company has initiated discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) regarding a potential anchor investment, signalling early momentum for the proposed IPO.
The Saudi sovereign wealth fund is reportedly evaluating an investment of around $5 billion in SpaceX’s upcoming IPO. If finalised, the move would position PIF as a key anchor investor in the offering.
Such an investment would also help the fund maintain its existing exposure in SpaceX, where it currently holds a stake of just under 1%. By participating early, PIF could mitigate potential dilution arising from the fresh equity issuance.
SpaceX is aiming to raise approximately $75 billion through its public offering, a scale that could surpass some of the largest IPOs in history.
If achieved, the listing would exceed landmark deals such as Saudi Aramco’s 2019 listing and Alibaba’s 2014 debut.
The company is actively assessing investor appetite for an offering of this magnitude, engaging with institutional investors to build confidence and ensure adequate demand ahead of launch.
Anchor investors play a critical role in large IPOs by committing capital before the formal roadshow begins. Their participation often signals confidence to the broader market and helps stabilise demand.
Alongside institutional anchor investors, a meaningful portion of the offering is expected to be allocated to high-net-worth investors through underwriting banks, ensuring diversified participation in the IPO.
The potential investment also reflects deepening engagement between Musk-led ventures and Saudi Arabia’s investment ecosystem.
Recent collaborations involving artificial intelligence and data infrastructure have further strengthened these ties, indicating strategic alignment beyond a single transaction.
