The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) may lower its initial public offering (IPO) price range, setting the revised band at ₹1,700 to ₹1,785 per share, as per news report.

As per news report, this adjustment comes as a response to market conditions and investor feedback on the previously proposed range of ₹2,000 to ₹2,100.

NSE Adjusts IPO Details

As per news report, The NSE plans to offer shares within the new price band of ₹1,700 to ₹1,785, slightly reducing its earlier expectations, as per people familiar with the matter.

The adjustment includes the possibility of decreasing the stake on sale to 5.5%, which differs from the original plan of 6% due to some shareholders opting out of selling their shares at the revised price.

At the top of this range, the 5.5% stake could raise approximately ₹2.43 lakh crore, placing the overall valuation of the NSE up to ₹4.42 trillion. This valuation contrasts with the earlier target of up to ₹5.26 trillion.

Impact on India's Largest Listing Attempt

With a potential fundraising of about ₹2.43 lakh crore, NSE’s IPO will not surpass Hyundai Motor India Ltd., which raised ₹2.79 lakh crore in 2024, hence, making Hyundai the largest IPO in India to date.

The revised offering size of NSE signals challenges within India’s primary market, which has seen approximately ₹10 billion raised so far in 2026, compared to more than ₹20 billion in each of the prior two years.

Regulatory Approvals and Stakeholder Participation

NSE’s IPO plans received approval from India's market regulator on September 4, 2026. The process involves Morgan Stanley and prominent shareholders such as Temasek Holdings, State Bank of India, Stock Holding Corporation of India Ltd., and several national insurance companies, contributing to the offering.

The IPO will consist solely of secondary shares and is anticipated to open for subscription in the week starting September 14, 2026. However, the final timeline and details may still undergo adjustments.

Conclusion

NSE plans to recalibrate its IPO pricing to ₹1,700-₹1,785, affecting its initial valuation and the size of the stake on offer. This move intends to adapt to market conditions and ensure a viable entry into the public market, raising approximately ₹2.43 lakh crore from a 5.5% stake sale.
