The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has witnessed substantial interest in its initial public offering (IPO), with demand surpassing the available shares.

As per news reports, the anchor book, initially expected to be around ₹9,000 crore, has been adjusted to over ₹6,000 crore, according to NSE's CEO, Ashishkumar Chauhan.

High Demand for NSE IPO

The IPO of NSE has drawn unexpectedly large demand, with interest significantly exceeding the shares available for allocation. Ashishkumar Chauhan, Managing Director and CEO of NSE, confirmed this on September 17, 2026.

The anchor book, originally anticipated at ₹9,000 crore, was reduced to over ₹6,000 crore, despite the high demand.

Allocation and Subscription Details

The IPO will open for subscription from September 17 to September 21, 2026, with a price band set at ₹1,700-1,785 per share. The issue is entirely an offer for sale, involving up to 12.64 crore shares being sold by existing shareholders. No new shares will be issued by NSE.

The allocation process will cater to different categories of institutional investors, including domestic mutual funds, other domestic institutions, and foreign portfolio investors (FPIs).

Shareholder Participation and Listing

Existing shareholders initially showed reluctance to sell their holdings at the proposed valuation, leading to a reduction in the offer from 6.2% to 5.11%. The shares will be listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
