India has achieved a major clean energy milestone, reaching 50% of its installed energy capacity from renewable sources, 5 years ahead of its 2030 target under the Paris Agreement, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi shared that India’s total energy capacity now stands at 484.8 GW, with 242.8 GW coming from non-fossil (clean) energy.

Solar Energy Leads the Charge

As per NITI Aayog, solar energy is the largest contributor to India’s renewable mix, accounting for nearly half of the total renewable capacity.

As of May 2025:

  • Solar capacity: 111 GW
  • Wind capacity: 51 GW
  • Hydro capacity: 48 GW

India also has an additional 130 GW of renewable projects in the pipeline, of which about 60% is expected from solar energy.

Companies Benefiting from the Renewable Push

With solar energy in focus, several companies are expected to gain from India’s clean energy drive:

  • Waaree Energies: A leading solar module maker, Waaree Energies recently secured major orders like a 410 MW order from Aditya Birla Renewables and 362 MW from Engie India.

  • Adani Green Energy: Adani Green Energy saw a 59% rise in module sales in FY25, reaching 4.3 GW, including 1.72 GW of exports.

  • NTPC Green Energy: The renewable arm of NTPC has already commissioned 1.6 GW, with 9.1 GW under execution, and a pipeline of 9.9 GW.

Other players like Inox Wind are also on investor watchlists amid rising demand for green power infrastructure.
