South Korea’s Digital Nomad Visa allows remote workers to live and work from the country for up to 2 years. However, the catch is that only high-earning professionals are likely to qualify.

South Korea’s Digital Nomad Visa is for the Top Bracket

The visa, officially known as the F-1-D Workation Visa, was launched as a pilot in January 2024. It allows foreign remote workers to live in South Korea while continuing to work for companies or clients based outside the country.

To qualify, Indian applicants must show an annual income of at least USD 66,000 (around ₹58 lakh), which is almost double South Korea’s per capita Gross National Income. This makes the visa accessible mainly to professionals in well-paying industries like tech, consulting, or entrepreneurship.

Key Eligibility Criteria for South Korea’s Digital Nomad Visa

To apply for South Korea’s digital nomad visa, Indian citizens must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have at least 1 year of experience in their current profession
  • Be employed by a foreign company or run an overseas business
  • Work remotely only (not for any Korean company)
  • Get their employer’s approval to work from abroad
  • Have health insurance covering at least ₹83 lakh
  • Provide a clean criminal record from India and any country lived in over the past 5 years
  • Show income proof through bank statements, salary slips, or tax returns
  • Submit documents translated into English or Korean
  • Apply from outside South Korea

Application Process for South Korea’s Digital Nomad Visa

Indians can apply at South Korean embassies or consulates in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, or Kolkata. The application fee is around USD 45 (₹3,750), and processing takes 10–15 days. Once approved, applicants must travel to South Korea and register for an Alien Registration Card within 90 days.

Spouses and children under 18 can accompany the visa holder with proper documentation.

Conclusion

South Korea’s Workation Visa offers an exciting opportunity to live in one of Asia’s most dynamic countries—but only for those with a high annual income. With a minimum income threshold far above the national average, the visa is designed to attract well-established professionals and entrepreneurs. For those who qualify, it’s a unique chance to blend remote work with cultural exploration in the heart of East Asia.
