Perplexity AI Launches 'Perplexity Computer': A General-Purpose AI Assistant for Max Subscribers

Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas announced the release of Perplexity Computer, positioning it as a unified AI platform that moves beyond search and question answering to autonomous task execution.
Perplexity Computer Overview
Perplexity Computer is described as a general purpose AI system that can handle a wide range of user requests, from data research to software deployment. The platform integrates files, tools, memory and specialised models, allowing it to act as a virtual digital worker that operates with minimal human supervision.
How the System Operates
When a user submits a request, the system breaks the request into subtasks and assigns each subtask to a dedicated AI model. The platform currently orchestrates 19 specialist models, each optimised for tasks such as research, code generation, data extraction, design and deployment. Results from the individual models are stitched together to produce a final output, while contextual memory enables the assistant to resume work on previously started projects.

Availability and Subscription Model
Perplexity Computer is initially available to users subscribed to the Perplexity Max tier, the company’s premium offering. The service is expected to be extended to Pro users in a later phase, expanding access to a broader audience.
Key Functionalities
The assistant can autonomously research topics, generate and debug code, draft documents, deploy applications and manage end‑to‑end workflows. By coordinating multiple models, it aims to reduce the need for users to switch between separate tools, delivering a more seamless experience.
Conclusion
Perplexity Computer represents a shift from AI powered search to AI driven execution, offering a consolidated platform that can perform research, development and workflow management tasks for subscribers.
