Meta Signs $6 Billion Fibre Optic Cables Deal with Corning for AI Data Centres

Meta Platforms has entered into a long-term strategic supply agreement with Corning, strengthening its AI infrastructure buildout as competition intensifies among global technology giants in hyperscale data centre development, as per Reuters.
Key Development
Under the agreement, Meta will pay Corning up to $6 billion through 2030 for the supply of fibre-optic cables for its AI data centres. The deal supports Meta’s expanding hyperscale infrastructure as it accelerates investments in large-scale computing and data transmission capacity.
Corning’s optical connectivity products form a critical backbone for high-performance AI computing environments, enabling faster data transfer and greater system efficiency across data centre networks.
Industry Demand and Capacity Expansion
Corning expects AI hyperscalers such as Meta, Amazon, Google and Microsoft to emerge as its largest customers from next year, reflecting surging demand for optical connectivity solutions.
The company is expanding its cable manufacturing facility in Hickory, North Carolina, to support rising orders from Big Tech clients, including Nvidia and OpenAI.
Strong demand from AI infrastructure spending has driven Corning’s share price to gain over 84% during 2025.
