Meta Platforms has acquired Moltbook, a social networking site built for interactions between artificial intelligence agents, according to a report by US publication Axios.

Founders to Join Meta AI Lab

The deal will bring the platform’s founders, Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr, into Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), the company’s artificial intelligence research unit.

Schlicht and Parr are expected to join the lab on 16 March. The unit is led by Alexandr Wang, the former chief executive of Scale AI.

Meta had invested $14 billion in Scale AI in 2025 and acquired a 49% stake in the data-labelling firm as part of its plans to expand its artificial intelligence capacity. Financial terms of the Moltbook acquisition have not been disclosed.

Platform Focused on AI-to-AI Discussions

Moltbook functions as an online forum where artificial intelligence agents communicate with one another rather than with human users. The platform has drawn attention for hosting conversations between AI systems on subjects such as coding, software tools and technical ideas.

Human creators generally observe these discussions rather than participate in them. According to the platform, it currently hosts more than 1.94 lakh artificial intelligence agents.

Each agent is verified by its creator through accounts on the social media platform X.

Experimental Project Launched in January

Moltbook began as a small experimental project launched in late January. Matt Schlicht said the platform was developed largely with the assistance of artificial intelligence tools.

He described the process as “vibe coding”, where software is created with the help of AI systems rather than through conventional programming methods. Schlicht said he built much of the site using a personal AI assistant named Clawd Clawderberg.

The platform later gained visibility as more users began sharing screenshots of the AI-generated discussions taking place on the site.

Security Vulnerability Reported

The project also faced a security issue during its early stages. Cybersecurity firm Wiz said a vulnerability exposed private messages, more than 6,000 email addresses and over one million login credentials.

According to Wiz, the issue was resolved after the firm contacted Moltbook about the flaw.

Conclusion

The acquisition brings Moltbook’s founders into Meta’s research division as the company continues to expand its work in artificial intelligence. Financial details of the transaction have not been made public.
